Venezuela’s Acting President calls on US government cooperation
In a statement posted on social media, Rodriguez said, "We invite the US government to collaborate with us on an agenda of cooperation oriented towards shared development within the framework of international law to strengthen lasting community coexistence." She emphasized that Venezuela seeks balanced and respectful international relations, writing, "We prioritize moving towards balanced and respectful international relations between the United States and Venezuela, and between Venezuela and other countries in the region, premised on sovereign equality and non-interference."
Rodriguez added, "President Donald Trump, our peoples and our region deserve peace and dialogue, not war. This has always been President Nicolas Maduro’s message, and it is the message of all of Venezuela right now."
Earlier on Sunday, Trump commented on Rodriguez’s stance, stating that she is “cooperating” while warning that she “will face a situation probably worse than Maduro” if she does not comply. He further indicated that the US requires full access to Venezuela’s resources, including oil, to rebuild the country.
Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, arrived in New York late Saturday and are currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. US authorities say the couple faces federal charges related to drug trafficking and alleged collaboration with groups designated as terrorist organizations. Maduro has denied the allegations, and Venezuelan officials have called for their immediate release, describing the operation as illegal.
