Mine Collapse Claims Fourteen Lives in Venezuela

(MENAFN) At least 14 people lost their lives on Monday when a vertical gold mine gave way in southeastern Venezuela's Bolivar state, the National Risk Management System confirmed.

The deadly collapse took place in El Callao, a town in Roscio municipality, after heavy rainfall triggered flooding that undermined the mine’s structural integrity, ultimately causing it to cave in.

Emergency responders, including firefighters and civil protection teams, have been deployed to the site and are actively working to retrieve the victims from the submerged zone.

Wuihelm Torrellas, mayor of Roscio, released an official statement offering condolences: “We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims.”

Authorities have established a command post near the site to lead ongoing drainage efforts and coordinate body recovery operations.
